Document Content:

This special issue presents original research contributions focusing on the design of new transceiver solutions for wireless networks beyond third-generation (3G) systems. The contributions are oriented towards implementation and integration in real-world wireless systems, employing a development and assessment approach. This approach ranges from realistic link/system-level software simulation, to offline verification and validation using channel measurements, real-time prototyping and validation, and finally, on-air demonstration and field trials. The papers address a broad spectrum of topics including MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) systems, space-time coding (STC), multiuser detection, interference suppression, synchronization, and channel identification, primarily applied to code-division multiple access (CDMA), wideband CDMA (WCDMA), high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), and multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA). A significant number of contributions originate from industry, offering valuable industrial perspectives on current research in wireless technology.

Detailed Table of Contents:

The special issue is structured into sections based on the methodology employed, including: Simulation-based performance evaluation with system-design approach, Impact of channel estimation and modeling accuracy on MIMO performance, and Measurement-based performance evaluation. Additionally, there is a section on Prototype-based performance evaluation.
