This dissertation focuses on the urgent need to enhance the quality of teacher training in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, specifically addressing the development of physics teaching competency (PTC) among students in teacher training colleges. The research highlights that current training programs may not adequately equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective physics instruction in lower secondary schools. The study aims to propose a structure for PTC, along with measures for its development and assessment. It investigates the current state of PTC among students, identifies challenges faced in practice, and explores potential solutions. The research is conducted within the framework of modern teaching theories and competency development, seeking to provide a systematic and specific approach to improving physics teacher training in Laos.
