The Role Of Education In Chile’s Economic Growth

Author: Jenny Gustafson Backman

Tutor: Professor Mats Lundahl

Lĩnh vực: International Economics

Nội dung tài liệu:
This thesis empirically investigates the link between education and economic growth in Chile from 1973 to 2005, employing time-series analysis and co-integration techniques. It examines how education influences economic growth through the technology parameter, approximated by total factor productivity. The study discusses potential implications for Chilean educational policy based on economic theory and empirical findings. While international evidence suggests quality is more impactful than quantity in education for economic growth, Chile’s achievements have been in quantity, with modest improvements in student performance despite increased funding. This suggests potential inefficiencies in the educational system’s design. The research contributes to the literature by offering a country-specific approach to analyzing this relationship, recognizing the limitations of conventional regression techniques for non-stationary time-series.
