Proposed Optimal Control Algorithms For Photovoltaic Arrays Reconfiguration

Author: Ngo Ngoc Thanh

Field: Control and Automation Technology

Document Content:

This dissertation focuses on addressing challenges in photovoltaic (PV) power systems, specifically concerning performance degradation due to inconsistent solar irradiance, a phenomenon known as partial shading. The research proposes advanced optimal control algorithms aimed at reconfiguring photovoltaic arrays to enhance output power and ensure system protection under varying lighting conditions. The study introduces novel mathematical models and algorithms, including a Dynamic Programming (DP) algorithm and a SmartChoice (SC) algorithm, to determine optimal array configurations. Additionally, the Munkres Assignment Algorithm (MAA) is adapted to optimize the switching method for the reconfiguration unit, thereby extending the lifespan of the switching matrix. A simulation toolkit is developed to validate the performance and accuracy of these proposed methods. The dissertation is structured into four chapters, covering solar system structures, optimal control theory, system restructuring strategies, and simulation/experimentation.

Detailed Table of Contents:

  • Chapter 1: Solar System Structure and System Performance Improvement Strategy Under Partial Shading Conditions
  • Chapter 2: Introduction to the Optimal Control Theory
  • Chapter 3: Development of a System Restructuring Strategy Using Optimal Control Theory
  • Chapter 4: Simulation and Experiment
